Canon Pixma MP970 All-in-One

We have long been fans of the new Canon inks and printers and the new top of the Range MP970 Multi Function Printer (MFP) lives up to our expectations. Unlike a lot of the cheaper MFP’s the MP970 gives great photo output as well as doing a more than creditable job on the more traditional roles associated with this type of printer.

Available online for around £180 what you get for your money is the ability print, scan and copy which is what you would expect, but add to that Transparency scanning and photo quality output, print directly onto CD/DVD, Duplexing and built in Ethernet connectivity (alongside USB) and you are getting the flavour of a very highly specced machine that is going to produce great looking pictures and documents.

Utilising a 7 cartridge system which includes two photo cartridges, we estimate the running costs of the printer, based on Canon’s page yield figures are around 1.88p per page in black and 3.88p in colour which are decent costs for an inkjet printer. Quoted print speeds are 15PPM for black and 9.9PPM for colour and we found that we could print our 5 page test document in 33 seconds and mixed text and graphics in 1 min 20 secs, which give real world speeds of 9.1PPM and 3.4PPM respectively.

All in all this is the machine that I would want in my home, flexible, quick and the ability to print very high quality output.

New Photo Printer from Canon

Friday, January 25th, 2008

Canon has announced a range of new products for 2008, including a new inkjet printer that will cost £35.

The company claims the Canon Pixma iP2600 can churn out a 10×15cm photo print in just 55 seconds. The IP 2600 replaces both the Pixma IP1800 and Pixma IP 2500 at the entry-level end of Canon’s printer range and offers 4-ink A4 printing at 4800 x 1200 dpi with class-leading 2pl(Picolitre) droplet size for finer detail and colour gradation. Chromalife 100 dye based ink formulation promises longer life prints too, with Canon claiming up to 100 years of fade-free enjoyment if the prints are stored in a suitable album. The IP2600 will be available during February. Unlike the older iP2500, which it replaces, it has an output tray to catch printed pages rather than simply dropping them onto the desk.

Utilising the companies FINE inkjet technology which gives you maximum convenience. Inks and print head are combined in a single handy unit, which can be easily replaced in seconds. The FINE Cartridge system also gives you fast printing speeds, for when every second counts!.
