Epson Photo R1900 voted best Photo Printer in Europe 2008

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

The Technical Image Press Association (TIPA) has named the Epson Stylus Photo R1900 the ‘Best Expert Photo Printer in Europe 2008′.  Epson has won this award for the second consecutive year and TIPA judges highlighted a number of key features that separate the winning Epson Stylus R1900 from its competition.  These include the printer’s seven separate colours, its capability to produce prints up to 13 inches wide on a broad variety of media types from gloss papers to a range of fine art textured media and the 1440 nozzle print head that enables a print resolution of 5760×1440 dpi.

The judges commented that ‘Epson’s new UltraChrome Hi-Gloss 2 ink system gives a wider colour gamut for natural skin tones in portrait subjects, and the smooth gloss finish with the extra gloss optimizer ink renders a superb look and feel to prints.  The addition of red and orange inks contribute to improved colour vibrancy’.

Epson R300 Maintenance tips

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

Q:

When I print from the Windows XP Picture and Fax Viewer using the Photo Printing Wizard, my prints look too dark. What is wrong?

A:

Some Epson printer drivers produce darker output from the Windows XP Photo Printing Wizard with Service Pack 2 (SP2) when used with their default color settings. We will be updating the drivers to correct this problem and posting them on the Epson Support Website for downloading. The updated driver is available for the Stylus Photo R200. You can download the driver from the Downloads page.

Full information is available from the Epson website here
Epson R200, R210, R300, R310 Counter Reset

Here is how to reset the waste counter for the;

  1. Epson R200;
  2. Epson R220;
  3. Epson R300;
  4. Epson R310
  • Press and hold “Stop”, “Maintenance”, and “Power” buttons for about 10 seconds. A message will come on the screen saying counter is reset and to turn the printer off. The R200 and others don’t have a screen so just wait until the 10 seconds is up.
  • Turn the printer off, unplug the power cord. Wait about 1 minute and power the printer back up. The counter will be reset. That’s all there is to the reset procedure.

Message:

Service required. Parts inside your printer are at the end of their service life. See your printer’s documentation for details

If the waste pad is actually full and ink is about to overflow, then you need to install a waste container. You can see the waste pad by opening the access panel on the back of the printer.

Changing the waste pad requires almost complete disassembly of the printer, it is a big job. There is an easier way.

Open the access panel on the rear of the printer (remove screw) and look inside carefullly with a flashlight. You will see a tube (down and to your left) coming from the cleaning pump and it will have an open end on it. This is the tube that delivers ink to the waste pad.

Use a piece of coathanger wire or equivalent, and fish out this piece of tube. Bring it to the outside of the printer, thru the access panel.

Find yourself a suitable container (Tupperware or a plastic cup or jar) that is not too tall. Put the tube into this container and secure the tube and container so they won’t come apart or lose connection if the printer is moved.

If you wish you can make a hole or notch in the access panel cover so it can be replaced.

Now the ink will go into this container and not into the waste pad inside the printer. If it gets full, dump it.

Epson ups the Stakes at the top end of Quality inkjet printing

New Photo Printer from Epson stretches the limits!

Epson are just in the process of releasing to the world their latest top end Phot Printer. The Epson R1900 is the latest in a long line of professional photo printers that dominate the top end of the market for high quality printing and can deliver photos up to 13 inches wide and 44 inches long on a wide variet of media types including glossy, lustre, matte, canvan and fine art papers.

With the introduction of their new range of high gloss inks the UltraChrome Hi-Gloss 2 range, the R1900 can achieve an optimal level of gloss and colour vibrancy in a pigmented ink system using eight colours – including new red and orange inks – plus an enhanced Gloss Optimiser. The Red and Orange inks have replaced the red and blue inks found in the Epson R1800, resulting in improved colour gamut and facial tones. This next generation pigment ink set produces quick-drying, archival resultas that can last up to 200 years under glass. A unique feature of the printer is the ability to auto-switch between photo and matte black cartridges to ensure the deepset blacks on any media type.

Other developments incorporated into the R1900 are:

  • Faster Print Speeds – Creates prints up to 35 percent faster than the Epson R1800, particularly at higher resolutions, boosting productivity for final layouts and sellable photographic images. Produces breathtaking 11 x 14 prints as fast as 1 minute 46 seconds.
  • Superior Media Flexibility – Offers the same media versatility as the Epson R1800 with the ability to print on glossy, lustre and matte medias as well as thicker fine art media, roll papers, canvas and directly onto inkjet printable CX/DVD’s.
  • Ehanced Connectivity – Allows two computers to simultaneously connect to the R1900 via two high speed USB 2.0 ports for seamless printing from either computer.

Exceptional Reliability – Features a new ink-repelling coating on the print head that prolongs the life of the Epson R1900 and decreases maintenance time. A built-in sensor also allows for automatic print head alignment and nozzle checking.
