More Strike action in the Royal Mail

The Communication Workers Union (CWU) has announced another 24 hour postal strike. Commencing on Thursday evening at 19:00 hours up to 130,000 postal workers will down tools and walk out.

Whilst I sympathise with the Royal Mails staff, with whom we have a generally very positive relationship and a great respect for the job they do - they need to remember that they have customers exactly the same as I do, and that they no longer have a monopoly on parcel deliveries.

I have taken this information from Royal Mails website:

“What does it mean for our customers?

  • Access to Royal Mail services is available on strike days - but limited to a single collection from street boxes and Post Office Counters, which may be earlier than the advertised times
  • We will attempt to deliver Special Delivery items, but this cannot be guaranteed, and so the money-back guarantees on these services will be suspended for items posted on Thursday 12th July and Friday 13th July
  • Parcelforce’s guaranteed services will remain unaffected
  • Royal Mail’s Branch Direct, Sameday and Door to Door services remain unaffected
  • All other mail services will be subject to delay
  • We aim to return to normal as quickly as possible. We will deal with the backlog of mail in date order, which may affect mail services in the days after the strike. “

Wake up and smell the coffee lads and lasses
